Being inventive together

It’s vital we don’t sink back to old ways in business or personally - yet that would be the well-worn path that gravity pulls us to.

Here in NZ as we move ahead economically now from down the ‘levels’ and from our beloved bubbles, it’d be tragic to set our sights on going back to the ‘brittle’ state we were all accustomed to.   I have no idea what that alternative more magical state is …  but I reckon getting a few shakers and movers from several kiwi SMEs (and maybe a few corporates, and NGOs too) together in a creative and focused way to get really conscious about the now and the next, could be the beginning of a more beautiful thing.

With this passion, along with Amara Collaboration we’ve designed an initiative to help Kiwi’s (and Aussies) not just to think through how their organisations could adapt and thrive but to get into a new action and energy stream. It may sound quite abstract so best just to call me if this could be handy for your organisation - I’m pragmatic - I really want to see us all make good use of this pause.

This offering - The Power of Three - happens online (plus face-to-face if we get to do that) and is created in the moment to provide dedicated space to rethink the now and the future together. It is for businesses that are clear that ‘the old way’ is not an aspirational heading. Even though this ‘pause’ has opened some eyes, it’ll take all our magical powers not to go back to the auto-pilot shut-eye of earlier times.

The Power of Three comes from a place of inquiry and action - not telling nor teaching. It begins end of May 2020 and invites 3 people from each organisation to team up (we’ll help heaps) with a focus on the now and the future, the why, the how., the what if. We’ll focus and facilitate pivotal conversations, we’ll provide provocative materials, and we’ll join up those involved with other organisations on a similar quest - for inspiration, learning and collective inquiry and, importantly, for action. You can count on about two hours a week of your own investment (more if you like of course).

I know that many businesses are putting all their thinking caps into the ring just to survive right now.  I also know that if we can both pay attention to survival and take each moment of that process as a clue to what’s next then that will serve us well.  Is there a small group of employees who you could commission to operate outside of the fray?  What small experiments could they take today and over the next few days? May be they could join us too?

Whether or not  you join The Power of Three right now - I encourage you to ask each member of your teams  to journal – try out these questions as starters to get the ball rolling:

  • How are our core customers’ needs changing right now? And how can we change with them?

  • How can we best learn from those closest to the need?

  • What do we believe and how might we be wrong, or at least missing crucial perspectives?

  • What have we dreamt about but never done? Maybe now is the time to partner with others and do the previously impossible?

  • What is our core promise, our really vital why? How might we meet this promise by using our current assets in different ways?

Whatever you do – remember that no one has the correct answers so we are all adlibbing based on as much wisdom as we can gather but not so much that it paralyses us. Tune into the energy of curiosity and play to experiment and to connect more deeply with yourself, your team, and your bigger purpose. Let me know how I can help out.

Pay attention. Do what matters.
